Game Notes

Some of the storylines that came out of the Dolphins' 30-23 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, including Reggie Bush's career game, Davone Bess' big day on punt returns and tackle Jake Long missing his first NFL game.

For the first time in his four NFL seasons, Jake Long missed a game because of an injury. Long, the Dolphins' Pro Bowl left tackle and the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2008, was replaced in the lineup by second-year guard John Jerry, who started his 12th NFL game. Long ended his streak of playing in 62 consecutive games, which includes a playoff game, because he didn't feel like his back was healthy enough during warmups.

"He wasn't feeling that great on the plane ride," interim Dolphins coach Todd Bowles said. "We just had to wait and see if anything would kick in and he'd start feeling better."

With temperatures in the 30s and light snow flurries falling before kickoff, Long's back stiffened up and the Dolphins decided to sit him.

Jerry, who had never played left tackle at any level, fared well in Long's absence outside of a pair of third-quarter penalties on consecutive plays - one for holding, another for a false start.

UNDER THE RADAR: Against Buffalo, defensive end Jared Odrick started his seventh game of the season and contributed his sixth sack. Odrick, the team's 2010 first-round pick, leads the defensive linemen in sacks despite playing fewer than 30 snaps a game. It's possible he'll be elevated into a starting role if the Dolphins let Kendall Langford leave as a free agent this offseason. Langford hasn't contributed a sack this season.

-- RB Reggie Bush rushed for a career high 203 yards and scored his sixth rushing touchdown of the season.

-- OLB Koa Misi, who injured his left arm in last Sunday's game against the Eagles, missed his second game of the season.

-- QB Matt Moore, who suffered a concussion against the Eagles, started against Buffalo and threw two touchdown passes.

-- LT Jake Long, who is nursing a lower back injury, missed his first NFL game.

-- WR Brandon Marshall scored his fifth touchdown of the season on a 65-yards bom from Matt Moore. That was Marshall's longest catch as a Dolphin.

-- WR Davone Bess' 101 punt return yards at Buffalo is the fourth most by a Dolphin and the most yards since Nov. 18, 2007, when Ted Ginn Jr. had 99 yards against the Eagles.

-- OLB Cameron Wake picked up sack 7.5 on the season and drew two holding penalties.

-- FS Reshad Jones produced his first interception of the season, and second of his career against the Bills.

-- CB Vontae Davis had his first multiple interception game of his career, bringing in two of Ryan Fitzpatrick's passes.

-- OL John Jerry started the 12th game of his career and his first at left tackle as Jake Long's replacement.
