Preseason Game 2: Who to Watch

The Dolphins hit the road for the first time Friday night when they take on the Carolina Panthers in their second preseason game. Here are some of players who bear watching.

• RB Lamar Miller: He looked tentative running the ball and returning kickoffs last week against Tampa Bay. It would be nice to see more from him.

• TE Michael Egnew: Sure, it's just a TV show, but "Hard Knocks" didn't portray the third-round pick in a great light and he seemed to fight the ball in the preseason opener. He'll make the 53-man roster, but he needs to pick up his game if he is to have a role this season.

• TE Les Brown: Yes, he's a great story and he's got great physical attributes, but he needs to show more to convince the Dolphins he deserves a spot on the roster.

• G John Jerry: He got some practice time with the first-team offensive line this week and he needs to parlay that into a good showing in a game.

• DE Derrick Shelby: The rookie free agent has drawn a lot of attention in recent days and he could be on the verge of earning a roster spot.

• G Eric Steinbach: We're getting close to reaching the time when the veteran needs to make a push if he's to challenge for a starting job.

• WR Clyde Gates: The 2011 fourth-round pick still has potentially game-changing speed, but he needs to start showing the coaches it can be useful in a game.

• S Tyrell Johnson: The free agent pick-up who once started 15 games for the Vikings is no lock to make the team because he has done little to stand out so far.
