"It's going to hurt him," said Coach Dave Wannstedt. "It's a tough break. This was a game where he was going to get a lot of playing time. And even in these practices competing against another team."
Heupel was injured in the preseason opener against the Rams, but it's an injury that also hampered him during his time at the University of Oklahoma.
The rookie, who is competing with Mike Quinn for the No. 3 quarterback job, has declined to comment on the injury.
An MRI on his wrist late last week revealed no major damage, but Heupel was expected to get a second opinion early this week.
