Sturgis' Hairy Adventure

Kicker Caleb Sturgis is back in action and kicking well at Dolphins training camp, but that's not exactly why he was drawing attention after Friday's practice. While the rookie looked good in practice, his overall appearance was rather — how shall we put it? — unique, courtesy of long-snapper John Denney.

Sturgis was the latest rookie to get nailed by the long-standing tradition of having fun with the new guys.

The Dolphins rookie defensive linemen were the first to show up with orange streaks or circles in their hair, and now it's Sturgis' turn.

He showed up at practice on Wednesday sporting a mop top of dark orange, sort of like The Beatles gone punk.

On Friday, the look had changed to short, spiky hair on top with closely shaved sides. More than one person have said he looks a little now like Miley Cyrus.

Friday actually was the first time in three days that Sturgis allowed himself to walk around the practice fields without his helmet on.

"I guess you kind of have to embrace it at this point," Sturgis said. "They kind of did a better job cleaning it up a little bit. Hopefully, it won't last too much longer."

Here are the details on the hair:

How long does he have to keep it that way?

"I'm just waiting on whatever they tell me to do."

Who got him?

"(Brandon) Fields started it and (John) Denney kind of took over."

What kind of reviews have you been getting?

"For my hair or for kicking?"

For the hair?

"I just get a lot of comparisons of who I look like. They're all pretty funny. You have to laugh with them, so you don't get too upset."

So what are the comparisons?

"I guess Johnny Bravo, I've heard. Jimmy Neutron, I've heard. Kind of got the Miley Cyrus haircut."

So there you have it. That's the long and short of the Sturgis hair situation.

Oh, by the way, Sturgis had a tremendous kicking day at practice.
