Practice Squad and Practice Notes

It's regular season week around the NFL, which means the Dolphins on Monday began their preparations for the opener at Cleveland. Before getting on the practice field, the team announced its practice squad, which includes six players who were with the Dolphins during training camp.

Those six are CB De'Andre Presley, S Jordan Kovacs, C Sam Brenner, WR Brian Tyms, TE Kyle Miller and WR Marvin McNutt.

They are joined by T Jason Weaver and DT Al Lapuaho. Weaver is a rookie from Southern Miss who was cut by Cincinnati, while Lapuaho was waived by the St. Louis Rams.

• The Dolphins began their practice Monday with both of their rookie cornerbacks, Jamar Taylor and Will Davis, working on the side. Worse, Davis was wearing a walking boot over his left foot.

• The news was better when it comes to first-round pick Dion Jordan, who was on the field during a special teams drill and was observed blocking the sled along with his defensive line mates.

• Some jersey numbers to note: Running back Mike Gillislee has switched from 35 to 23; Jelani Jenkins has gone from 43 to 53; and new fullback Tyler Clutts is wearing 40.
