WHAT THEY SAID

Here's what the Dolphins had to say after their 17-14 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers:

LINEBACKER DERRICK RODGERS:

ON THE FINISH:

"To win a football game like that is incredible, regardless if it's preaseason or not. It's just exhilerating to get a victory at the end on a great play like that."

ON THE WORK AGAINST THE BUCS DURING THE WEEK

"We learned a lot from it. You get to see different blocking schemes, the way different people block. Different talent, you can measure yourself up against someone else other than your teammates and of course you get to vent a little frustration against other people."

WIDER RECEIVER ROBERT BAKER

"When I was falling I was trying to get a good jump but I couldn't because the guy was holding on to me a little bit. But I just tried to watch the ball in and it was like the grace of God. It was a miracle, somebody tipped it and it came straight to me, so I couldn't do anything but catch it."

LINEBACKER ZACH THOMAS

"Sure it's preseason, but it's good to get a win, especially for the 2's and 3's because they were kind of struggling out there. But I'm just happy with the way the 1's played today. On both sides of the ball we dominated and we looked great."

ON THE BUCS

"It's only preseason, but I wish we had played them in the regular season because every season before the season when we practice against them they get all the pub and, yeah, they've got some great players on that team but they're always talking about Super Bowl and they're never there. They pumped them up this week and we dominated them in practice, the No. 1's did. But they're talking about when their 1's were going against our 2's and 3's and they were saying how they were dominating us and it was like ridiculous, and so we just showed them in the game. That's when you do all of the talking and it just really panned out."

COACH DAVE WANNSTEDT

"Before that last play I was obviously thinking about what I was going to talk to the team about. I was going to come in and tell them how one play — make a field goal, catch a third-down pass, contain a quarterback — one play could win the game. Well, one play did win the game at the end. I think there was a great lesson to be learned as far as finishing the game, and it's obvously never over until it's over."

"As far as our first groups, I was real pleased with how our first offense and first defense played. They got about 12 to 14 snaps apiece and we were more aggressive tonight than we had been for awhile on defense. That was part of the plan; we wanted to test some our blitzes early and I thought we got some good teaching out of it."

ON QUARTERBACK JAY FIEDLER

"Jay played solid, whatever his stats were, I know he didn't have any turnovers. I thought our offensive line did a nice job against one of better groups in the league, so overall it was a good week. This wrapped up a nice week for the team."
