In addition to Cade McNown's arrival at the Dolphins' practice facility, the news on Thursday included a quarterback being excused from practice and a young offensive lineman being released.<P>

The missing quarterback was rookie Josh Heupel, who was excused from the afternoon practice.

After the arrival of McNown, it seems only a matter of time before Heupel is released. He missed about two weeks of practice because of a wrist injury and hadn't shown enough before then to convince the coaches to keep him around.

Heupel was a tremendous college quarterback, but it appears he simply doesn't have the arm strength to make it in the NFL.

As for the roster move, the Dolphins released tackle Jim Harding, a rookie free agent from Toledo.

"There is no question on my part, when a guy comes in like him and gives it everything he has and he's not going to make it, that's the tough part," Coach Dave Wannstedt said about releasing Harding. "It's easy to cut the guys who basically cut themselves."
