Miami Dolphins Preview: DT Ndamukong Suh

The Miami Dolphins added the number one rated free agent this offseason: defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. How will the big man perform in his first year in South Beach?

In 2014, Ndamukong Suh was the anchor of the NFL’s best rush defense, the Detroit Lions. Check out this ridiculous stat line for an interior defensive lineman. Suh had 53 total tackles (nine assisted), three passes defended, thirteen stuffs, and an absolutely ridiculous 8.5 sacks. He was a dominant force, and that is exactly why the Miami Dolphins added him to their already potent front seven.

Suh has lived up to expectations as the second overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He has become a dominant defensive presence in his time in the NFL. He brings something to Miami that has been lacking for a few years: the ability to both stop the run and rush the passer from the inside.

A lot of people are criticizing or wondering if Suh will be worth his enormous contract. With his play alone on the field, the answer is probably not. But factor in how much better Suh makes those around him, especially star rushers Cameron Wake and Olivier Vernon, and suddenly you have a unit playing at an increasingly high level. Now that is worth the big money. Not to mention he had 8.5 sacks as an interior lineman last year.

Best 2014 NFL performance

Week 16 against the Chicago Bears

Suh was an absolute beast last season in this game, totaling four tackles and two sacks in a 20-14 win on the road over the Bears.

Worst 2014 NFL performance

Week 4 against the New York Jets

It is hard to gauge if Suh is even possible of a ‘bad game’ because he does so much for a defense outside of the numbers. But if we had to choose, this was his poorest game statistically, where he only had one tackle. But, the Lions still beat the Jets 24-17.

If Suh can play the entire 2015 season injury free, he should continue to be a terror for opposing offenses. He will be joined by former Lions teammate C.J. Mosley, and that should only help build chemistry along a stout defensive line. Be very afraid.

2015 Season Prediction: 45 tackles, 4 passes defended, 6.5 sacks, 1 interception, 1 touchdown.
