I will be watching some interesting matchups that might shed some light on the upcoming season.
Ndamukong Suh for the Miami Dolphins going up against the Panthers Ryan Kalil. Two multi pro bowl selection defensive players going at each other - my money is on Ndamukong Suh on winning this battle.
I cannot wait to see the matchup of Miami’s two star cornerbacks Brent Grimes and Jamar Taylor, going head to head with Carolina’s top WR core of Devin Funchess and Kelvin Benjamin. I believe height will not be a factor, and the Dolphins two 5 foot 10 defensive gurus will dominate their two 6 foot 5 wideouts. As I was writing this, I learned that Kelvin Benjamin is out for the season with an ACL tear. Sorry Cam Newton, the Miami Dolphins cornerbacks will not make it easy for you to break in a new WR.
Last but not least is the matchup of quarterbacks. Will Ryan Tannehill of the Miami Dolphins show that he can handle the pressure of sitting in the pocket and deliver deep pass after deep pass? In the previous game against Chicago, the offensive line gave Tannehill great coverage and time to complete this. I think that trend will continue in the next two practices and into the game on Saturday. For Carolina, Cam Newton is in trouble. With Ndamukong Suh coming up the middle and Cameron Wake coming up the side, Cam Newton will not know what hit him. Plus with our cornerbacks pressuring his wide receivers at every turn, his only hope might be establishing a running game, which the Miami defensive line will stop.
This is an interesting matchup because of the similarity of the two teams. The next two days of practices will be awesome to watch and leading to what I believe will be an exciting and well played preseason game on Saturday.
