After joint practices with the Carolina Panthers came to an end, the Miami Dolphins focus switched from don’t hit the quarterback to smash the quarterback, in what is the second pre-season game for both teams.
Ryan Tannehill was 12-for-15, with 102 throwing yards and one touchdown. Tannehill is continuing where he left off from the first pre-season game where he put up similar numbers against the Chicago Bears, and is having a great start to the pre-season.
The first team offense and defensive lines continued to have a great start, with holding Carolina to no first downs in the first 16mins of the game.
At running back, Damien Williams had two touchdowns behind another impressive outing by Lamar Miller. I’m still waiting to see what the rookie Jay Ajayi can do. Maybe in the next game against the Atlanta Falcons he will be given a chance to shine.
The play of the game came from the defence. With Carolina having first and goal at Miami’s one-yard line, the defence stopped all four running attempts and took over on downs. I know that sent a message that the defense is ready for the start of the season.
The one set back for the defence is the injury to cornerback Jamar Taylor…oh the joys of pre-season. Hopefully his calf injury isn’t a major ordeal and he will be ready for game one of the season.
At the end of the game, the Dolphins made it interesting with scoring late into the fourth quarter and missing a two point conversion that would have won them the game.
Next Saturday the Miami Dolphins take the field against the Atlanta Falcons in the 3rd game of the pre-season. If the first team offense and defence show up like they did today, they will get the first W. Which In the scheme of things, really means nothing till that first regular season game comes around. Heads up Dolphin fans. We are heading in the right direction, wins will come.
