The exhilaration over the huge victory at Tennessee was tempered somewhat on Monday when it was confirmed that offensive tackle Marcus Spriggs had sustained a major knee injury.
Spriggs sustained ligament damage to his left knee and is out for the season.

Spriggs will have surgery on the knee this week or next week and will be placed on injured reserve.

The Dolphins will now turn to Spencer Folau, who will become the team's third starting left tackle since the start of training camp.

Brent Smith originally was slated to replace the departed Richmond Webb at left tackle, but he went down with a season-ending knee injury on the first full day of training camp.

Spriggs, who joined the Dolphins as an unrestricted free agent from Buffalo in the offseason, then took over.

"It makes you sick because the guy had seen an opportunity here, he came down here with a chance to compete, then he got his opportunity when Brent got hurt, and he fully took advantage of it, and then this happens," said Coach Dave Wannstedt. "It's sad, it's very unfortunate."
