Dolphins' Draft Prospect: CB Jalen Ramsey

The Miami Dolphins currently hold the 8th pick in this year's NFL Draft. Is Florida State CB Jalen Ramsey a good fit for the Dolphins?

Another highly respected player that will likely be drafted in the top 10 of this year’s 2016 NFL draft is Jalen Ramsey, lockdown cornerback for the Florida State Seminoles. Throughout his three years he has played many positions in Florida State’s backfield and was a primary reason for their successes when they won the National Championship and made their first appearance in the new college Football Playoff in the 2014-15 season. Coming in as a freshman, he made an immediate impact to the Florida State defense. He started every single game in his three years at FSU. In his three years as a college superstar, he made 180 tackles, 23 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions.

Ramsey would make an immediate impact if he is drafted by the Miami Dolphins. This young talent is skilled in many different areas and most importantly he knows how to win the jump ball in the air, which seems to be an area the Dolphins struggle with. Miami’s front 4 on defense desperately need some help in the backfield. The players, coaches, and fans all watched as Miami’s corners and safeties struggled during this previous 2015-16 season. If Ramsey ends up on the Dolphin’s, he would be a great leader for Miami’s defensive secondary just like he was for Florida Sate. He is a sure tackler and a playmaker on defense. Part of the fact that he has totaled so few interceptions is because teams just don't throw the ball to his side of the field.

The Dolphins have the number 8 spot in the draft order and according to all the experts, Jalen Ramsey is projected to be a top 5 draft pick. Hopefully the Dolphins will get lucky and he will fall to the eighth spot. However, if he doesn’t, look for Miami to draft another defensive specialist that will provide an immediate impact for the upcoming season.
