There was some good news regarding Oronde Gadsden's injury in that it won't require surgery. But the veteran wide receiver still will be out several weeks, a development that could affect his role on the team.
Coach Dave Wannstedt called the injury a "bad ligament sprain" and said Gadsden would be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.
But Gadsden is expected to miss most, if not all, of the preseason because of the injury.
"It'll be several weeks to see how he progresses," Wannstedt said. "Four weeks from now, we'll see where Oronde is and evaluate the whole situation."
Even before the injury, it didn't appear Gadsden was a lock to make the roster because of the presence of several promising young receivers, such as J.R. Tolver, Kendall Newson and Sam Simmons.
