The ankle injury sustained by wide receiver Oronde Gadsden remains the only remotely serious injury to hit the Dolphins so far in training camp, but they sure have a lot of banged-up players.

A day after cornerback Patrick Surtain underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, defensive end Rob Burnett followed suit.

He had surgery at the Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Burnett will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis, but he shouldn't be out of action for too long.

Quarterback Jay Fiedler had to leave the Wednesday morning practice because of back spasms.

Other players sitting out practice on Wednesday included fullback Deon Dyer (groin), kicker Rob Hart (hamstring), fullback Sedrick Irvin (hamstring), defensive tackle Johnny Thomas (knee) and defensive tackle Davern Williams (shoulder).

Williams also is expected to have surgery.

Tight end Marco Battaglia has been excused from practice the past couple of days for personal reasons.
