Offense gains footing
The Miami Dolphins' offense seems to have gained ground yesterday and today. The O-line has appeared to have slowed down the defensive pass rush allowing the quarterbacks to go through their progressions downfield. As far as 1st team highlights, Ryan Tannehill was able to hit Jarvis Landry deep between 2 safeties for a touchdown.
Although Jay Ajayi is not 100% recovered from a knee injury that has sidelined him since Monday, Head Coach Adam Gase said, “he did not want to miss any more practices.”Ajayi took most of the starting reps today during scrimmage. He was healthy enough to do some physical work carrying the ball inside and caught a number of passes out of the backfield. However, not showing the explosiveness of Arian Foster.
Kenyan Drake limped off the field minutes before practice ended. The 3rd round pick took a carry and cut it to the right side of the field for a long gain before stepping out of bounds and coming up lame. Whether by pain or frustration, the rookie spiked the football and tore off his helmet as he was slowing down. He did not return to practice.
WR’s: Juice Deep, Parker out, Carroo gets 1st team reps
Jarvis Landry continues to be heavily involved in the offense. Tannehill’s blankie has received most of the catches throughout training camp, and caught a deep pass today between 2 defenders for a TD.
After tweaking his hamstring earlier this week(thought to be a caused of dehydration), Devante Parker was held out of another practice today. Although Parker was sidelined, he still did individual work running cone drills adjacent to the practice field.
With Parker out, 3rd round pick Leonte Carroo took his place in the starting lineup, with Landry in the slot, and Kenny Stills on the outside. Although Carroo has caught some passes throughout camp, he does not seem to be targeted heavily. He has the #4 receiver spot behind Stills with Jakeem Grant occupying the 5th spot.
Brandon Albert Out
If you were wondering why Branden Albert was not as practice today, do not fret. The left tackle was on a rest day along with LB Kiko Alonso and DT Jason Jones. Laremy Tunsil took his place at Left Tackle with Dallas Thomas filling in at Left Guard.
CB’s: Lippett back with 1st team, Chekwa Out
Chimdi Chekwa got starting CB work on Tuesday Night. But with him out today, Tony Lippett took over the 1st team reps opposite of starting CB Byron Maxwell. Xavien Howard is still on the PUP list leaving Chekwa and Lippett battling for the number 2 spot. Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph says the problem at the corner position is not due to talent but lack of experience.
Ndamukong Suh was held out today with a back issue. His absence may be the reason why the offense had time to throw today. The injury is not thought to be serious. With his back getting rest, it allowed coaches to get more of a look at the other DT’s. Suh would have played if it was a game. Expect him back soon.
