DIXON OUT

The Dolphins made it official on Thursday that Mark Dixon will have to miss Sunday's regular season opener against Houston as they downgraded him from questionable to out.

Dixon's absence leaves only two pure tackles on the active roster, Todd Wade and rookie Wade Smith.

Because of that, don't be surprised if the Dolphins activate Greg Jerman off the practice squad for Sunday's game.

If they do that, the Dolphins would have to cut a player with the hope that nobody picks him up before they can re-sign him.

Coach Dave Wannstedt said this week veteran guard Todd Perry could play tackle in an emergency and he also said the same thing last month about second-year player Seth McKinney.

But neither scenario is ideal, which is why Jerman very well might be signed from the practice squad.

The news is better for center Tim Ruddy, whose aching knee is feeling fine. Ruddy will be in the starting lineup against the Texans.

Sunday's game officially became a sellout on Thursday, meaning the game will be televised locally.
