After taking a very weak Miami Dolphins team (talent wise) to the playoffs for the first time since 2008, Adam Gase has made a special list, according to CBS Sports´ Pete Prisco.
Prisco released a list of his Top 10 coaches in the NFL yesterday, and included Adam Gase at 8th overall in his rankings.
Here is the complete list via Prisco:
1. Bill Belichick
2. Mike McCarthy
3. Andy Reid
4. Pete Carroll
5. Mike Tomlin
6. Sean Payton
7. John Harbaugh
8. Adam Gase
9. Bruce Arians
10. Bill O´Brien
While I do not necessarily agree with this list entirely or with the order of the list, I have to agree with Prisco in placing Gase as a Top 10 coach, despite his small sample size to go off of.
What Gase did last season with a depleted team (the Dolphins played a playoff game with virtually all 2nd and 3rd stringers on defense), is nothing short of sorcery. After starting 1-4, it was easy to write off the season as the result of a rookie coach. Then, Gase completely mixed things up, gave a new identity to his offense, and helped lead Ryan Tannehill to his best statistical year yet.
Gase will only get better as he gains experience, and I fully expect him to climb this list in years to come. Prisco´s greatest compliment was comparing Gase to Belichick, who tops this list and will top this list until the day he retires (which can´t come soon enough).
Nevertheless, the Dolphins have found their franchise coach for years to come.
