True to his word, Coach Dave Wannstedt wasted little time announcing his starting quarterback for Sunday's game against Indianapolis, and the choice was Brian Griese.

But Wannstedt also wanted to make sure everyone know he wasn't making a declaration that there was a changing of the guard at quarterback, emphasizing that he was only announcing that Griese was starting this week.

"More than what he did last week, with everything being considered, Brian will start this week and we'll go from there," Wannstedt said. "We're just going to deal with Indianapolis and we'll go from there."

Wannstedt said he was hoping Jay Fiedler would be available to be the No. 2 quarterback this week, but added that Fiedler still was not 100 percent, something Fiedler later confirmed.

"These are two good people, two guys that are winners," Wannstedt said. "Jay Fiedler doesn't have to prove anything to anybody. It was totally my decision based on what I'm seeing."
