HEAD COACH DAVE WANNSTEDT
"It was a very serious week and a very focused week on getting prepared to play as good as we could against New England today and I think that it was a good solid win. We did the things that we like to do and that win football games. We played defense, we kept them out of the end zone, for the most part, we had some sacks, we had some turnovers and ran the football. Matt Turk, Olindo (Mare) and our special teams were outstanding today. Obviously, we can get a lot better. A couple of those roughing the passer penalties, in a real cirtical game, they are going to be costly. We have got to try to clean those up. I think that our defensive line was trying so hard to come up with sacks. We will continue to work on that and get ready for the Jets."
ON LAMAR SMITH'S PERFORMANCE
"Lamar, he needed this today. He has been working so hard and to get him on track at home was a real confidence builder for him, our entire offense and our entire team. It is amazing how it effects the entire team when we cannot run the football. I think that is the first thing our defense looks for."
ON THE PLAY OF THE OFFENSIVE LINE
"The offensive line played outstanding today. Anytime that you rush for a couple hundred yards, it's a fine day by everybody. Todd Wade got hurt. He will probably miss a coiuple of weeks (knee sprain). He won't play next week and with the bye week, we expect him back for the Seattle game. That was a good chance to get some other guys playing time."
JASON TAYLOR ON THE TOUCHDOWN
the ball was just on the gound. I don't know what happened on the play. I just happened to see the ball and didn't have to go very far. So, if I would've missed that one, I would've been in trouble."
QB JAY FIEDLER
ON THE OVERALL WIN
"It was a really good effort by everyone, offense, defense, special teams. I think everyone played Miami Dolphins football, the way we're capable of doing out there, with confidence, playing hard-nosed gainst a hard-nosed football team and doing it all right."
ON HIS OPENING INTERCEPTION
Well, they dropped eight guys…I saw a couple of guys running and thought I could sneak it behind that linebacker. HE just turned around and made a good play on the ball. I had Oronde in the zone behind him and I just couldn't sneak it by him."
ON LAMAR SMITH
"Lamar Smith was tremendous today. Every time I handed it off and booted out, I would turn around and see him run through an offensive tackle here and bounce off a guy there. The holes were really good all day, too. The offensive line did a great job. It seemed like there was a crease every time he was running it, to get up in ther eand make a move on a defender."
ON THE TOUCHDOWN PASS TO WEAVER
"We were looking for that. We were hoping to get one of their linebackers to come ou; It's something we saw on tape a couple of times. First, it looked like their safety was going to come ou;t with them, and then he came back in, and I knew I had Jed one on one with the middle linebacker. He plays the ball so well, Jed does, that it's just a matter of throwing to him and letting him make the play."
