The Dolphins filled the roster spot vacated when Mark Dixon was placed on injured reserve, but it wasn't an offensive tackle they added.

Rather, the Dolphins promoted wide receiver Kendall Newson from the practice squad.

Don't be surprised, however, if Newson's stay on the active roster is a short one. The Dolphins have a couple of wide receivers — Derrius Thompson and Sam Simmons — banged up and maybe this move was made to help the Dolphins protect themselves Sunday at Tennessee.

It's clear the Dolphins have a bigger need for an experienced offensive lineman at this point.

Newson, a 6-1, 197-pound first-year player from Middle Tennessee, was among the final cuts this summer and he has been on the practice squad.
