Zach Thomas again missed practice on Friday, and it's not looking real good he'll be able to play Sunday at New England.

Thomas issued a statement through the team on Thursday saying his status probably wouldn't be determined until close to game time, but his missing practice Thursday and Friday doesn't bode well.

It's obvious the Dolphins would badly miss Thomas because while Tommy Hendricks is a very good special teams player he's nowhere near the linebacker Thomas is.

In other news:

-- If Tim Bowens can't play because of the calf injury he sustained at Dallas, it wouldn't be nearly as big a blow because Jeff Zgonina is a tremendous backup to have and the drop-off between the two isn't nearly as significant as going from Thomas to Hendricks.

Having said that, Bowens is having a Pro Bowl-caliber season stopping the run, and the Dolphins definitely could use.

-- Speaking of the Pro Bowl, Patrick Surtain continues to lead all AFC cornerback in fan voting, which is going on on

The fan voting, which ends on Dec. 12, counts for one-third of the selection process. Players and coaches will vote on Dec. 15-16, with the teams being announced on Dec. 18.

Surtain probably is the Dolphins player most likely to go to the Pro Bowl.

Other strong candidates include Adewale Ogunleye, Jason Taylor, Bowens, Thomas, with Brock Marion, Ricky Williams and Chris Chambers also having a shot.
