The Dolphins have called a press conference for 5 p.m. Monday afternoon amid reports to announce changes on the coaching staff. One of those will involve the hiring of a new offensive coordinator because Norv Turner is set to be named new head coach of the Oakland Raiders at a press conference, also scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday.

We already can tell you that former Raiders offensive coordinator Marc Trestman will be introduced as the Dolphins' new quarterbacks coach, a position that was vacant since Mike Shula left last year to become head coach at the University of Alabama.

It is also believed that running backs coach Joel Collier will be promoted to replace Turner as the offensive coordinator and that Bernie Parmalee will be promoted from assistant running backs coach to full-time running backs coach.

Already this offseason, the Dolphins made a change with their wide receivers coach, firing Robert Ford and hiring former Arizona offensive coordinator Jerry Sullivan.

Ironically, Ford got a job with the Arizona Cardinals when new head coach Dennis Green hired him to coach his wide receivers.

Turner's departure comes as a bit of a surprise, if only because the Raiders were all set to hire Dallas offensive coordinator Sean Payton last week.

Two factors that might have convinced Turner to leave are the fact he wanted to return to his native California, and also the fact the Dolphins coaching staff will be under intense scrutiny next season.
