The Dolphins have been interested in acquired wide receiver/kick returner Terrence Wilkins for a couple of years, and they finally got their man.

Wilkins became the latest unrestricted free agent to sign with the Dolphins when he agreed to a one-year deal worth $535,000.

After being waived by the Rams and Panthers last summer, Wilkins signed with the Colts and appeared in three games for them in the 2003 season.

Wilkins spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Colts before being traded to St. Louis in 2002. He spent one season with the Rams.

Wilkins caught 43 passes for the Colts in 2000, but his greatest success has come on special teams.

He has three kick returns for touchdowns during his career, including a 97-yard kickoff return for a score against the Dolphins during his rookie season.

With the Dolphins next season, Wilkins will be given every opportunity to win the job of both punt and kickoff returner, areas that have been weaknesses for several years now.

The Dolphins signed Charlie Rogers as a free agent last offseason hoping he could be the answer, but he failed miserably and wound up getting cut before being re-signed because of injuries.
