Fiedler still the guy

Even though Jay Fiedler pretty much made the same type of mistakes that got him benched at halftime of the opener and got A.J. Feeley benched after two starts, he will get the starting nod again Sunday when the Dolphins face the Patriots at Foxboro, Mass.

"The focus this week is beating New England, and I believe that Jay gives us the best chance, gives our team the best chance, to do that," Coach Dave Wannstedt said Monday. "That's all we're thinking about right now."

Fiedler struggled against the Jets, with two interceptions and two lost fumbles. One of the interceptions was returned 66 yards for a touchdown by Jets cornerback Donnie Abraham, who stepped in front of fullback Rob Konrad, who had lined up wide on the play.

"You don't know how they're going to adjust," Wannstedt said of the way defenses cover the play. "They could have a linebacker out covering them, they could have a corner out covering them.

"The breakdown in the play was that if the corner is covering your running back, you don't go there with the ball. That was the mistake on the interception. You look for another option where maybe you have a wide receiver on the linebacker where you have the matchup advantage."

That touchdown was the third given up by the Dolphins offense this season. What makes that worse is the fact the offense has scored only two.
