Veteran Antuan Edwards, who had started eight of the first nine games at free safety, was let go on Wednesday when the Dolphins terminated his contract.
Edwards won the starting job over Arturo Freeman
after being signed in the offseason as an unrestricted free agent.
With Edwards gone, Freeman and Yeremiah Bell join strong safety Sammy Knight as the safeties on the roster and Freeman is the logical chioce to step into the starting lineu.
Also on Wednesday, the Dolphins reached an injury settlement on kicker Matt Bryant. His departure leaves Olindo Mare as the only kicker on the roster.
That's because the Dolphins on Tuesday waived Bill Gramatica, who kicked three field goals but missed an extra point in the one-point loss to Arizona.
Bryant had kicked in three games before sustaining a quad injury while kicking off at practice last Friday.
Also this week, the Dolphins announced that safety Shawn Wooden would remain on PUP for the rest of the season and word is the veteran, who has been out with a back injury, will retire.
Finally, the Dolphins waived/injured cornerback/wide receiver Bobby Sippio.
