The book on Vickerson

Nick Saban took another player from one of his former coaching stops in the seventh round, selecting defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson from Michigan State. But Saban didn't actually coach Vickerson.

The 6-5, 300-pound Vickerson is a former high school star who had an up-and-down career at Michigan State.

After starting as a sophomore, Vickerson found himself coming off the bench after John L. Smith took over as head coach. The man Smith replaced as MSU head coach was Bobby Williams, who had replaced Saban and is now an assistant with the Dolphins.

Vickerson regained his starting job as a senior in 2004 and finished with 4.5 sacks.

Vickerson is a project, make no mistake about it and the hope is he could provide depth and some youth at defensive tackle.
