Cutting time

On the eve of the team's rookie minicamp, the Dolphins waived seven players, including a couple of running backs.

Waived were RB Brock Forsey and Vick King, in addition to G Victor Leyva, DT Mario Monds, S Ricky Sharpe, G Jamil Soriano and LB Renauld Williams.

Of the seven, the only one that could be characterized as mildly surprising was Monds because he's a big body in the middle of the defensive line.

As mentioned, the Dolphins will hold their rookie minicamp this weekend with workouts that will be closed to the public.

All six draft choices -- RB Ronnie Brown, DE Matt Roth, LB Channing Crowder, CB Travis Daniels, T Anthony Alabi and DT Kevin Vickerson -- are expected to be on hand.

Others practicing will be the team's undrafted rookie free agent signings, a list expected to be made public on Friday.

Based on published reports, the list should include University of Miami QB Brock Berlin, West Virginia RB Kay-Jay Harris, NW Oklahoma State DE Van Brown, Marshall WR Josh Davis, Iowa LB George Lewis, Oregon State S Mitch Meeuwsen, Missouri CB Shirdonya Mitchell, Missouri TE Victor Sesay and LSU LB Lionel Turner.

If Mitchell indeed is part of the signings, don't look for him to work out this weekend because he's recovering from a torn ACL sustained at his Pro Day workout before the draft.
