The Dolphins and New Orleans Saints have agreed on a trade that will send running back Ricky Williams to Miami in exchange for the Dolphins No. 1 and No. 4 pick this year and No. 3 pick next year that could escalate to a No. 2 or No. 1 based on whether Williams reaches certain incentives next season. The Dolphins will also receive the Saints' No. 4 pick this year.
So what does this mean? It means the Dolphins now have one of the top young running backs in the league, a player that could help vault them into serious Super Bowl contention. Coach Dave Wannstedt has made it clear over and over that his desire is to control the ball on the ground. He never accomplished that last season with an ineffective Lamar Smith. Now he has a player in Williams who is powerful, talented and tenacious.
With some improvement on the offensive line, the Dolhpins could find themselves in an excellent position next season. The team did receive a setback in that department on Friday when heavily recruited center Olin Kreutz decided to accept a less lucrative offer from the Bears instead of signing with the Dolphins.
