Brown excited to be in camp

Ronnie Brown made his first appearance at training camp on Monday after signing a mult-year contract. After getting a deal believed to include a signing bonus in the neighborhood of $20 million, Brown had every reason to be excited.

"For the most part, I'm just excited about being out here," Brown said. "It's been pretty difficult. You're part of the team, you want to go out there and help."

While Coach Nick Saban said he couldn't predict when Brown would be ready to contribute, Brown said he was "banking" on playing Saturday night when the Dolphins take on the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Saban said coaches would be spending extra time with Brown to try to help him catch up with the rest of the players who have been at camp since the first practice July 25.

"We're going to make the best of the situation and do everything possible to get him ready to play as soon as possible," Saban said.

In other news:

-- DT Vonnie Holliday was excused from practice on Monday because his wife is on the verge of having a baby.

-- LB Eddie Moore practiced for the first time in training camp, albeit on a limited basis. He was taken off PUP.

-- To make room on the roster for Brown, the Dolphins released safety Deveron Harper. He had been signed last week.

Saban said Rex Hadnot again would start at right guard against Pittsburgh. Hadnot started at center against Chicago before lining up at right guard against Jacksonville. For the second consecutive game, Seth McKinney will start at center.
