No QB call yet

Coach Nick Saban said Wednesday he still hadn't made a decision as to who would start at quarterback in Saturday's preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Saban did say Frerotte took a lot of snaps with the first-team offense on Wednesday, but it's more difficult to gauge now that practice no longer is open to the media except for the first 30 minutes.

Frerotte and A.J. Feeley continue to be listed together on the first team on the depth chart.

-- DT Manuel Wright was back at practice on Wednesday after missing Tuesday because of sickness.

-- The wives of DT Vonnie Holliday and LB Brendon Ayanbadejo both had babies. Holliday had a son, his second child. Ayanbadejo's first child was a girl.

-- Saban said he was planning to hold practice as scheduled despite the threat of Tropical Storm Katrina. Saban did say adjustments would be made, if necessary.

-- Former Dolphins WR Sam Simmons has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
