New Dolphin ecstatic

New Dolphins tight end Randy McMichael was so excited he had a hard time talking about becoming the team's fourth-round draft pick. But he was able to make it clear he was delighted to be coming to Miami.

"I'm looking forward to getting down to Miami and doing my thing," McMichael said in a conference call from Athens, Ga. "I can barely speak I'm just so happy."

Getting the call from the Dolphins erased all the disappointment of watching the draft on Saturday and not seeing his name pop up on the list of selected players.

McMichael said he had anticipated being drafted in the second round, and will use that slight as motivation.

"I was very upset yesterday," he said. "I felt every tight end picked ahead of me I was better than them. I can't wait to go out and prove it."

McMichael, incidentally, was a roommate in college of Terrence Edwards, the younger brother of new Dolphins running back Robert Edwards.

He said his idol growing up was a current NFL tight end, and a pretty good one at that.

"I've been a big Shannon Sharpe fan since high school," McMichael said. "Shannon Sharpe is my man. I met Shannon Sharpe and I want to break all his records and everything."
