Still moving along

It was a great day all around for the Dolphins organization, not only with the victory over the Jets but also with the Colts' perfect season disappearing with a home loss. You also may have noticed that the team that beat the Colts was the same team the Dolphins defeated last week -- on the road, no less -- the San Diego Chargers.

That San Diego was able to beat the Colts tells you that the Chargers do have a pretty good team and that what the Dolphins accomplished by beating was very impressive indeed.

It obviously was a lot more impressive, than the victory over the Jets on Sunday.

To be frank, the victory over the Jets was rather unimpressive. The Dolphins had to scratch and claw and rally to beat a team that has been decimated by injuries and that entered with a 3-10 record.

This was not a pretty victory by any stretch of the imagination.

But what it showed was the Dolphins being able to come up with big plays at the end of the game to win.

In this one, you can look at Travis Daniels' play in the corner of the end zone against Justin McCareins or Yeremiah Bell breaking up the fourth-down pass that clinched the victory.

Those plays helped the Dolphins overcome a very questionable pass interference call on fourth-and-13 that gave the Jets 34 yards and moved them into Dolphins territory.

Earlier in the season, that may have been enough to wind up defeating the Dolphins. And that may have been the biggest positive to come out of this game.

The Dolphins were not overly impressive against the Jets, but they found a way to win at the end, something they could not do earlier in the season against Buffalo, Atlanta and New England.

Who knows where the Dolphins would be in the playoff picture had they been able to pull out one or two of those games.

But they obviously weren't good enough to get it done, and maybe 7-7 is exactly where the Dolphins should be right now.

And getting to 7-7 by winning four in a row is not a bad way to get it done because it means there's really promise for the future.
