Tuesday roundup

There's no guarantee Jason Taylor will be playing in the Pro Bowl next month, but if he does, he will be in the strarting lineup. Taylor was announced as one of the Pro Bowl starters this weekend.

Zach Thomas and Chris Chambers also were selected to the AFC Pro Bowl squad, but they won't be starters. Thomas was beaten out for the starting nod at middle linebacker by Denver's Al Wilson, while the starters at wide receiver ahead of Chambers will be Indy's Marvin Harrison and Cincinnati's Chad Johnson.

Like Taylor, there's no guarantee Thomas will be playing in the Pro Bowl. On the contrary, Thomas probably would be listed as doubtful, whereas Taylor would be questionable.

Speaking of Thomas, he earned second-team AP All-Pro recognition. The first-team inside linebackers were Brian Urlacher of the Bears and Wilson.

On the subject of AP awards, Ricky Williams did not earn a vote for Comeback Player of the Year as we indicated last week. Nick Saban also was shut out when it came to the voting for NFL Coach of the Year. All the coaches who got votes got to the playoffs, but getting the Dolphins from 4-12 to 9-7 was every bit as impressive a coaching job by Saban as anything anybody else did this past season.

Tim Couch, the top overall pick in the 1999 draft, worked out for the Dolphins last Friday, along with three wideouts, including former Minnesota Vikings player Kelly Campbell and former Denver Broncos player Chris Cole.

Saban has spoken with former Houston head coach Dom Capers, apparently about a position on the Dolphins coaching staff. The two worked together at Kent State back in the 1970s.

The Dolphins signed three more players over the weekend: DT Howard Green, LB Matt Sinclair and CB Art Thomas.

Green started 12 games for New Orleans in 2004, while Sinclair and Thomas both were out of football this past season.

Sinclair and Thomas were allocated to the NFL Europe League.
