The Dolphins faced the Panthers in the regular season last year, winning 27-24 at Dolphins Stadium.
The Panthers, who feature one of the most explosive offensive players in the game in wideout Steve Smith, recently signed cornerback Reggie Howard, so the game will serve as a reunion of sorts.
All four of the Dolphins' preseason opponents were announced on Wednesday, although no other date was finalized.
The Dolphins will open the preseason at home against Jacksonville on the weekend of Aug. 10-14, followed by a trip to Tampa Bay on the weekend of Aug. 17-21.
Following the trip to Carolina, the Dolphins will close out the preseason with a home game against St. Louis either Thursday, Aug. 31 or Friday, Sept. 1. Considering the Dolphins open the season on Thursday, Sept. 7, one would think they'll push to play the St. Louis on Thursday, Aug. 31 to get an extra day to prepare for the Steelers.
The Dolphins were 1-4 in the preseason in 2005.
