Texas State DT first of the 7th-round picks

The Dolphins took little-known Fred Evans from Texas State with their first of three seventh-round picks. The big defensive tackle had visited the Dolphins earlier in the spring.

Evans, who is 6-4, 305, bounced back between the offensive line and defensive tackle during his collegiate career, which began at the College of DuPate.

Evans said he attended the University of Illinois as a freshman but decided to transfer after his freshman season because of what he called "adjustment issues."

Evans then moved to Texas State, saying that school was the only one that could accommodate his desire to transfer in mid-semester.

Last season, Evans was named his conference's defensive player of the year after recording 55 tackles with five sacks and 18 tackles for loss.

The book on Evans is that he's a very raw, developmental prospect with enough tools that he could become a contributor with time.
