Dophins pick up WR/KR

The Dolphins have been looking to add a little explosiveness in their return game since the end of last season, and they added another potential contender for the job when they claimed wide receiver/kick returner Jamall Broussard on waivers from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Broussard was released by the Bengals because of their overload at wide receiver after he spent some time in NFL Europe this spring. Broussard caught 24 passes while averaging 9.9 yards on punt returns.

In 2004, Broussard averaged 23.1 yards on kick returns and 4.3 yards on punt returns in eight games with the Carolina Panthers.

The 5-9, 175-pound Broussard, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State, has never caught an NFL pass after spending all of last season on Cincinnati's practice squad.

Among the other candidates to return kickoffs are incumbent Wes Welker, Kelly Campbell, Frank Murphy and Shirdonya Mitchell. On punt returns, Welker's competition could come from Marcus Vick and Broussard.

In case you hadn't heard, Ricky Williams' second game in the CFL didn't go very well, as he was held to only 14 yards rushing on eight carries in Toronto's 17-9 loss to Winnipeg.
