Tight end Randy McMichael and cornerback Omare Lowe drew praise from Coach Dave Wannstedt after both practice sessions on Friday, as the Dolphins held their first practice of training camp. What follows are some notes and anecdotes from camp.

McMichael, the rookie from Georgia, has a new number. His jersey number was switched from 48 to 81 between the two practice sessions.

-- Among other players Wannstedt also mentioned by name as having impressed on the first day of camp (remember that the full squad is due to report on Sunday) were defensive end Adewale Ogunleye, safety Arturo Freeman and running backs Travis Minor and Robert Edwards.

-- As expected, rookie center Seth McKinney missed the first day of camp as his agent and the Dolphins continue to try to reach a contract agreement. While he would have preferred having McKinney on hand, Wannstedt didn't seem too concerned, saying, "It'll all get worked out."

-- Former Dolphins defensive back Greg Jeffries has rejoined the team, this time as a scout.

-- QB Jay Fiedler and TE Alonzo Mayes both were placed on the Active/PUP list, where they will remain until they're ready to practice.

-- Rookie WR Sam Simmons left the morning practice early because of stomach cramps, but was back for the afternoon session and made a couple of nice plays.
