Here's a look at some notes, quotes and anecdotes from the Dolphins' 24-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

-- Running back Robert Edwards' first game action since January of 1999 ended in more frustration. Edwards had three carries for 4 yards and one reception for another 4 yards in the second quarter before telling Coach Dave Wannstedt at halftime he was again having problems with his groin. Edwards told Wannstedt he was able to play in the second half, but the Dolphins decided to hold him out. This is significant because the Dolphins won't keep Edwards if he can't show the ability to play a full game.

-- Already short-handed at linebacker, the Dolphins also had to play without Zach Thomas, who was left home because he had the flu.

-- Defensive tackle Tim Bowens had a short night. He banged his right big toe into the turf in the first quarter and was done for the evening.

-- The other injuries reported involved S Trent Gamble (right quad contusion), TE Randy McMichael (left elbow hyperextension), LB Joshua Symonette (left knee sprain), T Todd Wade (right hamstring strain), LB Shannon Wadley (right rib contusion) and TE Alonzo Mayes (ankle).

-- Punter Casey Roussel probably killed any chance he had to make the team when he shanked his only attempt against the Saints. The punt traveled 17 before going out of bounds.

-- What they said:

RB Ricky Williams: "I just wanted to get some looks, it didn't really matter who we were playing. As far as it being the Saints, the big thing for me was just a chance to see a lot of my old teammates and coaches who I hadn't caught up with since I was traded. But basically I just wanted to get looks ... since I didn't really play much the other day."

TE Randy McMichael on his touchdown: "I was going to go out of bounds, but I knew there wasn't any time left. I was just going to flip over them and land on my head if I had to. I ran hurdles, but that was back in middle school."

QB Jay Fiedler: "To tell you the truth, the hip's never felt better. It felt great out there. On Monday there was a bit of soreness. I came out today and felt fine to play. After the game it didn't stiffen up at all. I feel good right now. It's a positive sign that I can go out this week and push hard on it and get the work done that I need to get done."

QB Ray Lucas: "I have had the opportunity with Jay hurt to get some more reps, so I am more confident. I am having fun out there."
