Wilkinson Done for 2006

The Dolphins lost a second veteran for a season on Thursday when veteran defensive tackle Dan Wilkinson was placed on injured reserve. That came one day after guard Jeno James also was placed on IR.

To replace Wilkinson on the 53-man roster, the Dolphins signed rookie defensive tackle Chase Page off the San Diego Chargers practice squad.

Page, a 6-5, 296-pound player from the University of North Carolina, was a seventh-round draft pick in 2006.

During his career at UNC, Page played defensive tackle, defensive end, guard and tight end.

Wilkinson, who signed with the Dolphins back in August, played in 10 games for the Dolphins this season before developed a leg problem in practice last week.

The 33-year-old Wilkinson signed a three-year contract when he joined the Dolphins, but it's fair to question whether he'll be back next season, based on his limited role this season, the fact he was close to retiring this year and the fact his base salary for 2007 is scheduled to be $2 million.
