The Dolphins got down to the NFL roster limit on Tuesday with three moves that had been expected. That was one of the developments at Dolphins camp.

As expected, the Dolphins placed offensive tackle Brent Smith on injured reserve and also waived/injured tight end Alonzo Mayes and cornerback Zebbie Lethridge.

The moves left the Dolphins with 68 players, three above the NFL limit, but NFL Europe participants Scott Shields, Cedric Donaldson and Kevin Rollins all carry roster exemptions.

Those exemptions end on Sunday when the Dolphins have to get down to the regular season limit of 53 players.

In other news:

-- Safety Brock Marion was held of Tuesday's practice and might not play Thursday night against the Bears. Marion twisted his knee on Monday and has some soreness.

-- Guard Jamie Nails also missed practice and he also probably won't play against the Bears. Nails has a bruised knee.

-- On the flip side, tackle Marcus Spriggs returned to practice on Tuesday, and defensive end Rob Burnett practiced for the second consecutive day.

-- Coach Dave Wannstedt said Thursday night's game will be very important in terms of deciding the last roster up for grabs. He estimated that between 10 to 15 players are still fighting for jobs.
