Not Going Anywhere

The Dolphins lost Wes Welker and Donnie Jones as restricted free agents this offseason, but Yeremiah Bell and Cleo Lemon will be staying put now that the deadline to sign RFAs to offer sheets has come and gone.

The Dolphins had placed second-round tenders on both Bell and Lemon, meaning they would have received second-round picks as compensation for declining to match an offer.

That's sort of what happened with Welker, you may recall, when the Patriots were ready to sign him to an offer sheet but instead decided to give the Dolphins an extra seventh-round pick to make sure they wouldn't match.

The Dolphins, meanwhile, got a seventh-round pick from the Rams when they declined to match their offer to Jones.

If Bell and Lemon play for their tender of $1.3 million in 2007, they will be eligible to become unrestricted free agents next offseason. It's also possible that either Bell and/or Lemon will be signed to long-term contracts at some point.
