The importance of having cornerback Sam Madison in the lineup against the Colts cannot be overstated, and he took an important step toward that goal on Thursday.

Madison took part in practice, this after being limited to doing some running on Wednesday.

Barring any unforeseen setbacks between now and Sunday, Madison will be in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Colts.

With a receiver corps that includes Marvin Harrison, Qadry Ismail and Reggie Wayne, the Colts put a lot of pressure on a secondary, and it's questionable how well equipped to handle it the Dolphins would be without Madison.

Of course, Madison probably will be at less than 100 percent on game day and his ability to make it through the game could go a long way toward determining the outcome of the game.

But just having him at the start is something of a victory for Miami.
