Cornerback Claimed Off Waivers

Five days after cornerback Andre' Goodman underwent surgery on his ailing shoulder, the Dolphins got some help for their secondary by claiming Derrick Johnson off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.

Johnson played for both Houston and Atlanta last season after being released by the San Francisco 49ers and wound up appearing in five games before finishing the season on the Falcons' injured reserve list.

He had been a sixth-round pick of the 49ers in 2005 and started five of the 14 games he played as a rookie. His numbers that year included 36 tackles, one sack, seven passes defensed and a fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown.

As for Goodman, he underwent surgery on the shoulder he injured during the post-draft minicamp, the same shoulder that had required surgery in January. There is no timetable for when Goodman will be ready to practice.
