Evans Released

The Dolphins made a couple of roster moves over the last two days, and one of them really came as no surprise, that being the release of second-year defensive tackle Fred Evans.

Evans was let go less than a week after being arrested in Miami Beach after getting into an altercation with police. When word came out that Evans already was on probation after being arrested for possession of marijuana in Texas in February, well, it seemed pretty easy to figure out he was done.

Just the tone of Cam Cameron's team-released statement on Saturday was a good indication Evans was in trouble.

"We are aware Fred Evans was arrested this morning," Cameron said. "We will not condone this type of behavior. I assure everyone it will be dealt with seriously."

It had been assumed that Evans would play a larger role in 2007 after impressing during last year's training camp but playing only one game during the regular season.

But even then, Cameron tempered the expectations in the offseason when he said Evans still had a long way to go.

Now, he'll have to continue that progress with another team.

NEW DEFENSIVE BACK: Safety Chris Harrell, who starred for Berlin in NFL Europa this spring, was signed on Wednesday.

Harrell went undrafted out of Penn State last April but he attended the Arizona Cardinals training camp before being cut. He had 48 tackles and two interceptions for Berlin this spring.

INTERNATIONAL ADDITION: The Dolphins were assigned British wide receiver Marvin Allen as their international practice squad player.

Allen, who was born in London, will join the team in training camp and not count against the active roster or the practice roster but can't be signed to the 53-man roster during the 2007 season.

In case you're wondering what kind of player Allen is, he played the last three seasons in NFL Europa, catching 21 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown for the Rhein Fire in the just-completed season.

He spent all of 2006 on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squad as their international practice player. The 24-year-old Allen stands 5-10 and weighs 180 pounds.
