No Suspension for Porter

The Dolphins won't have to start the season without linebacker Joey Porter because the NFL has decided to deal with his offseason arrest with a fine rather than a suspension.

Porter has been fined three game checks, which will add up to $141,176. For those who want to do the math, it's three-seventeenth of his base salary of $800,000.

Based on the NFL's new hard-line approach, there was a real possibility Porter would be suspended after he pleaded no contest on the charges that stemmed from his altercation with Cincinnat offensive tackle Levi Jones in Las Vegas.

On another legal front, Chris Chambers' court date in North Carolina, stemming from his arrest last weekend for DWI, reckless driving and speeding, has been scheduled for Aug. 15.
