Cordova Comes Aboard

This is a time of year when teams are cutting players to reach roster limits, but on Wednesday the Dolphins picked up somebody when they signed former Jacksonville defensive end Jorge Cordova.

Cordova had been released by Jacksonville on Monday.

To make room on the roster for Cordova, the Dolphins placed offensive tackle Joe Toledo (foot) on their Reserve/PUP list. That means Toledo will be ineligible to return until after the sixth week of the regular season. Once he starts practicing, the Dolphins will have a three-week windown to decide whether to activate him or keep him sidelined for the rest of the season.

Cordova was a third-round draft choice of the Jaguars in 2004 after being a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection.

He spent his first two NFL seasons (2004-05) on Jacksonville's injured reserve list with a knee injury before playing in 13 games, all as a backup, last year.

Cordova recorded three tackles on defense and eight stops on special teams, where he also blocked a punt and recovered a blocked punt.
