Dolphins Make Their Cuts

The Dolphins made 22 moves on Saturday to get down to the NFL roster limit of 53, waiving 16 players, waiving/injured four more, and finally terminating the contracts of two veterans.

The two biggest names to be let go were WR Az-Zahir Hakim and FB Cory Schlesinger, the two guys whose contracts were terminated.

Waived/injured were LB Jim Maxewll, LB Robert McCune, WR P.K. Sam and G Dan Stevenson.

The 16 players simply waived were TE Courtney Anderson, DE Mkristo Bruce, DE Jorge Cordova, FB Kyle Eckel, G/T Tala Esera, TE Aaron Halterman, QB Gibran Hamdan, S Tuff Harris, CB Derrick Johnson, G Marquay Love, WR Michael Malone, FB Tim Massaquoi, G Stephen Parker, CB Geoff Pope, DT Brian Soi and T Julius Wilson.

The Dolphins can set up a practice squad of eight players on Sunday.

"This is always a difficult day," said Dolphins General Manager Randy Mueller. "Everyone in camp did everything we asked of them. They worked hard, they had a positive attitude, and they embraced our ‘team' philosophy.

"Unfortunately, the league requires us to cut our squad down to 53, so we certainly couldn't keep them all. We feel good about the guys on our team, and I think we have a good mix of veteran and young players on our roster."
