Haley: No Thanks

The Dolphins coaching search took an interesting turn on Tuesday when Arizona offensive coordinator Todd Haley canceled his trip to Miami after agreeing to a contract extension with the Cardinals. That left at three the number of candidates who have been interviewed for the Miami head-coaching vacancy: Tony Sparano, Leslie Frazier and Rex Ryan.

"It is a tough thing to turn down," Haley said. "But it was an easy thing in that we have so much ahead of us here. That's what really made it easier for me was the fact I saw what we have a chance to be."

The feeling remains that Sparano is the heavy favorite to get the job, with the New Haven Register reporting over the weekend that Sparano already had been offered the job and would officially accept once Dallas' season ends.

The Dolphins signed four players from their season-ending practice squad to contracts for 2008: WR Kerry Reed, WR Chandler Williams, G Marquay Love and LB Marcello Church.

Teams have one week after the end of their season to sign practice squad players for the next year, otherwise they become free to negotiate with any team.

Those who ended the season on the practice squad but were no offered contracts were WR Marvin Allen, G Tala Esera, WR Stefan Logan and DB Jacoby Watkins.

Cam Cameron reportedly could be in line to become offensive coordinator in St. Louis, where he also could be joined by former offensive line coach Hudson Houck.

Cameron also was said to be a candidate in San Francisco, but the 49ers hired former Rams head coach Mike Martz.

... Former Dolphins interim head coach Jim Bates resigned as assistant head coach of the Denver Broncos.
