A Pick With Great Genes

The Dolphins continued to go big in the fourth round, selecting guard Shawn Murphy from Utah State. If nothing else, Murphy certainly has the genes. His father is former Atlanta Braves slugger Dale Murphy.

Murphy was selected with the 110th pick after the Dolphins sent their seventh-round pick, the first in that round, to Chicago to move up from 115th.

Murphy was a defensive end in junior college until he moved to Utah State and was switched to the offensive line.

Here is Scout.com NFL Analyst Tom Marino's analysis of Murphy:

Tough, strong, highly physical and versatile (LOT in 06 - LOG in 07). Son of former Braves baseball great Dale Murphy. J.C. transfer, who is very much a work in progress. Former DE. Comes off the ball showing good balance points. Works to sustain, but was not particularly explosive on contact. Can pull, lead and adjust on the move. On pass pro, is going to needs work on his hand use and needs to set more efficiently. Draft consideration 5th - 6th.
