A few days after Coach Dave Wannstedt said the possibility existed that Cris Carter was done for the season, the question now has gone from whether Carter will return to when he will return.

Wannstedt stated on Thursday that the Dolphins will get Carter back, and added that they would have a better idea in a few days, perhaps as early as this weekend.

Carter remains in the hospital because of a kidney problem, but Wannstedt spoke with him on Thursday and said that Carter told him he was feeling much better.

Carter is expected to be released from the hospital within the next couple of days.

"He was feeling real good and was ready to get out there this morning if it was up to him," Wannstedt said. "We'll know something pretty definite by this weekend as far as timetable."

Even in a best-case scenario, it's difficult to envision Carter being ready any sooner than the Dec. 1 game at Buffalo. That, ironically, could wind up coinciding with the return of quarterback Jay Fiedler.
